Mark Gurman fueled the latest discussion after commenting that people internally call the device “the Ultra.” Still, he stopped short of suggesting Apple has finalized the branding.
That distinction matters because Apple closely protects product names before launch. Moreover, internal labels can serve as convenient shorthand rather than official marketing names.
Apple’s naming history also shows why predictions remain risky. Before their introductions, reports frequently used different names for products that eventually became the iPhone Air and iPhone 16e.

That creates an unusual positioning challenge. The report suggests the foldable could sit above the iPhone Air but not necessarily above the Pro range in overall capability. Still, it may become Apple’s most expensive iPhone.
