Apple Maps opens up Search ads for Businesses in the US and Canada

Apple is expanding its advertising business by opening Apple Maps search ads to eligible companies in the United States and Canada. The company has also introduced incentives to encourage businesses to join its “Ads on Maps” program.

Businesses that meet Apple’s requirements can join the program. In addition, eligible advertisers who place orders by October 11, 2026 may be eligible for a sales discount.

Apple Maps Ads Target Local Searches

Apple designed the ads to appear when users search for relevant businesses. Therefore, promoted results could reach people when they already intend to find a store, restaurant or other destination.

Apple says users conduct more than one billion business searches on Maps each month. In addition, around half of those searches lead to some form of engagement. That action could include requesting directions to a business location.

The new option also expands Apple’s existing advertising ecosystem. Businesses already using Apple Ads can add Maps alongside their current campaigns. Meanwhile, companies with fewer retail locations can purchase placements through Apple Business tools.

Apple Offers Advertisers an Incentive

Eligible agencies can receive a 15% discount, although Apple caps the benefit at $1,000. However, the company applies that discount to the following month’s advertising spend rather than reducing the original purchase. The offer also applies only during the first year.

Apple has also emphasized privacy as advertising expands across Maps. The company says that personal information stays on the device. In addition, Apple Ads does not collect or store that data or share it with third parties.

Some Advertising Categories Remain Banned

Not every business can advertise through Apple Maps. Apple prohibits political, religious, gambling and alcohol advertising, although supermarkets remain eligible. The company also restricts certain medical-related promotions.

Interestingly, home-service providers face restrictions too. Plumbers and electricians cannot currently advertise on Apple Maps.

Finally, Apple Maps ads create another revenue stream for Apple. At the same time, businesses will have new ways to reach customers at a crucial time: when they are actively searching for a destination.
